Commemoration of Caesar’s Death

You can’t really count all the events and festivals that take part in beautiful month of March in Rome, when every tree blossoms and that special something is in the air, you can’t see it, just feel it…even a walk might seem a lot in this marvellous capital, but annually Commemoration of Caesar’s Death is held March 14 is celebrated in the Roman Forum, near the statue of Ceasar.

Because he drove from Rome the royal race,
Brutus was first made consul in their place.
This man, because he put the consuls down,
has been rewarded with a royal crown.

Anyway it was a will which would change the history of the western world, military gambles, political intrigue, supernatural events, compassion for those who turned out to be his own assassins, his relationship with Cleopatra and so on. At the time of his death Caesar was preparing a huge military campaign against the Parthian empire in the East. . An ideal answer in terms of Caesar’s personal ambitions but surely a contributing factor to the hate the Republicans had for him. So on the 14th in Italy there is a Commemoration of Caesar’s Death, cultural events are usually held in the Roman Forum near the statue of Caesar.

The end of Carnival

Rome has officially said goodbyes to the winter, which is a lot rain and grey days in the capital , the sun is out, and even if in the morning there is still chilly fresh air, during the day under the sun, it’s just good. The closing ceremony of the cold would be martedì grasso, tomorrow, the fourth of march, carnival , celebrated all over Italy.

Confetti and little kids dressed in all kind of funky dresses, screaming, enjoying and eating a lot of candy and carnival treats. It’s a time, 40 days before the Easter, a final party before the Ash Wednesday and also the restrictions of Lent…this winter festival is one of the most popular in Italy and the most beloved one, celebrated with parades and masquerade balls.

This beautiful idea to start up the Carnival began in the Middle Ages and surprisingly reached its height after the election of Pope Paul III, most of the celebration then took in the Historical Centre on Via Lata, nowadays known as the shopping district Via del Corso. This festival attracted everyone’s attention, entire city’s inhabitants were excited!

The traditions of celebration haven’t changed that much since Middle Ages, the parade usually opens in Piazza del Popolo passing through Via Ripetta and Via del Corso, also a stage with various performers and street artists in Piazza Navona, ending with Baroque fireworks in Piazza del Popolo. Concerts are held and nightclubs have special openings, head to Rome during Carnival , it will be so much fun!

Death of Julius Caesar

Romans have many celebrations and lots of history left behind and one of those important days is the 14th of March…is the day when the Roman dictator Julius Caesar was murdered. There are many versions of this incident, but probably the most popular and accurate is written by Caesar’s biographer Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus ,who seems to have had access to imperial archives and may have consulted eyewitness accounts.

“Caesar caught Casca’s arm and ran it through with his stylus, but as he tried to leap to his feet, he was stopped by another wound. When he saw that he was beset on every side by drawn daggers, he muffled his head in his robe, and at the same time drew down its lap to his feet with his left hand, in order to fall more decently, with the lower part of his body also covered. And in this wise he was stabbed with three and twenty wounds, uttering not a word, but merely a groan at the first stroke, though some have written that when Marcus Brutus rushed at him, he said in Greek, “You too, my child?” (Et tu Brute! ed.)

8th of March, International women’s day!

There comes this day every year, when every single woman feels proud to be one, when men are finally paying attention and appreciate their mothers, wives, girlfriends and daughters, it shouldn’t be that way, but unfortunately we live in this world, where we need a certain date to remember and appreciate someone. 8th of March will again come with bright yellow mimosa flowers all around Rome, men selling them to every possible corner of the capital, just in case some of you ,fellers ,will forget about your donna, again!

It might be banal and even cheesy to some of you, but I say, why not to be remembered in this men world, where women still need to double prof themselves, to be seen. Why cant we just have a drink on this simple day, why don’t we pretend that we are appreciated and loved just for once? In Rome, male will try and fake so hard, you will almost believe they adore you 🙂 Dinner, drinks, a concert, a ride to Gianicolo hill…just let it go, enjoy it.

Museums and sites sometimes offer free or reduced price admission to women on March 8. If you are planing go for nice dinner in Rome, on this day you will definitely need a reservation, some of the restaurants will serve a special menu on this day, too. It sounds a bit ridiculous to some of you, that we need a day to be remembered, but have you ever thought that men actually admires you and loves you, and as for them is too hard to remember any date, they would remember this one, even if it’s impossible to miss, while the city is literally Yellow from the mimosa flowers, let the sarcasm go , and for one day feel loved! By the way,Rome is perfect place, where to bella, every day , every corner, every minute and there is no inappropriate time for them to say that!

Roman life, heading to the spring.

By rome4u.blogspot.com Even with all the Italy’s political confusion, the lost empire capital does not give up, bubbling as always, stunning in every season, and no doubt unique like no other in the world. The capital of the world is enjoying spring sunshine already, the carnival is on full spread, with masks and little lions, supermen and princesses running around. Rome is ready to step into March, leaving the short winter behind, Americans dressed in flip flops and T shirts, Germans sitting on stairs sipping beer, and Italians still wrapped into scarfs and Gucci sunglasses, the fashion is lifestyle in here, and judgment comes with it 🙂 the good one though…

Rome is splendid in every month, there is always events to attend, places to visit and new restaurants and bars to discover. March is full of events, starting with local soccer matches, chocolate festival, marathon and of course women’s day! This is a country where men like to express themselves a lot, every women will feel bella in here, they are loved and respected. Every person will lose the patient and control after a while being in here. The chaos that rulez this capital is unbelievable, drivers will go mad, but the funny thing is, Italians look in the eye, the other countries drive by rulez looking at the signs and lights, Romans drive by instinct, looking in the eye, screaming , shouting and showing fingers, but the truth is, it works better.

After a while being in Rome, you will plan your meals by the time not the stage of the hunger, one o’clock is lunch hour , sharp, all the restaurants are packed, grab delicious tramezzino or panino, another funny thing about Italy, the rest of the world call it Sandwich, Italians have Panino 🙂 The coffee you will sip standing up, possibly chatting with your Neighbor, who does the same. It’s so much easier here to smile at the stranger and get the same back, it’s also easier to get angry with a stranger and be sent to certain country as well 🙂 Romans take it easy, everything, they are always late, and it’s forgivable, the lunch hour could be also 2 hours, no problem. Once you are Rome, do it in a Roman way, have your very own Roman Holidays.
